nullThe National Film & Television School presents a documentary from producer/director Adeyemi Michael, titled Sodiq.

Michael is a recent MA Directing Documentary graduate from the National Film & Television School in the UK, and Sodiq is his graduation film. The film just World Premiered at the Sheffield International Doc Fest, beginning its film festival circuit travels.

Adeyemi plans to travel with the film, eventually reaching USA shores with it.

Here’s a logline:

The search for a young man from a North Peckham estate who, in 2008, embarked on the journey to become a doctor, and 5 years later is on trial for murder…

It’s based on the life of the filmmaker’s friend, Sodiq Adeojo (above-left) who was found guilty last year of murdering 17-year-old Sylvester Akapalara (above-right), and was ordered to serve 22 years in jail, and 14 years for having a knife and a gun – all to be served concurrently.

Director Adeyemi says that he made the documentary to explore what the turning point was in Sodiq’s once promising life, and how his story is a reflection of broader social issues in Britain today.

We’ll keep you informed as the film travels.
