Trinity Rodman was taken off the field during a soccer game on Wednesday after she appeared to sustain a leg injury while playing. The Washington Spirit were competing in the Concacaf W Champions Cup group stage against Monterrey when she was stopped midway through.

What happened to Trinity Rodman’s leg?

Rodman was attempting a tackle along the right touchline when she fell to the ground. Athletic trainers helped her off the field and to the sideline as she appeared to be unable to put weight on her right leg. The soccer player was then replaced by Brittany Ratcliffe at the 41st minute. Rodman was seen heading to the locker room on crutches during halftime, according to ESPN. After the game, she was seen on the field on crutches and wearing a full-length knee brace.

Washington Spirit coach Adrián González did not provide an update about Rodman’s injury. He said she would undergo scans on Thursday.

“We need to wait until tomorrow,” he said, according to Pro Soccer Wire. “She’s going to get scanned tomorrow, and we will have more information.”

The Washington Spirit won 4-0 and qualified themselves for the Champions Cup semifinals.

Trinity Rodman had already been sidelined due to a back injury

Rodman was sidelined for four months from the United States Women’s National Team roster after she sustained a back injury. She had played for the team only once since the 2024 Paris Olympics. Since returning to soccer, Rodman scored seven goals in 13 games for the Washington Spirit.

Wednesday marked the first time Rodman was called to the USWNT since April: “I’m super excited to have Trin back with the group — but a healthy Trin I think is the important thing,” U.S. head coach Emma Hayes said at a news conference prior to Rodman’s apparent leg injury.

“When she came in in April, she really felt she was in a good place, but the reality was, I think so much adrenaline got her through that game in L.A., but afterward that reality hit home that there were some issues in her back that were unresolved,” she added. “She’s one of the best players in the world, and we’ve had to play without her for more than a year.”

The USWNT will be playing against Portugal on Oct. 23 and Oct. 26.
