Ohio artist Trippie Redd shared the news of his latest project outside of music, producing an animé series with his favorite animé producer from The Boondocks, Carl Jones. The hip-hop and animé worlds have blended more than once as artists like Megan thee Stallion, Lil Nas X, Lil Uzi Vert and Trippie Redd have all revealed their fandom for animé cinema in the past.

Trippe Redd shared with fans on an Instagram Story the exciting news saying working with Jones has been “an honor.”

“It’s an honor to be working on an animé with the same guy that animated the show that made me love animé,” he wrote to Jones on his Instagram story.

Trippie also shared that he’s working on the script “as we speak” with no hint of possible characters or what the animé will be about.

Jones posted a photo of the two side by side to his Instagram last week, promoting the animé collaboration.

“Building With The Homie @trippieredd Stay [Tuned],” he wrote.

On a recent episode of Complex‘s Brackets, Trippie Redd listed his favorite animes crowning 2016’s Berserk as his number one pick for “how it’s told” and his love for the main character.

During the conversation, he confessed his frustrations with The Boondocks not being recognized as an animé.

“Why wouldn’t Boondocks count? Why do people feel that way about Boondocks? he asked. “I feel like they feel like that because a Black man made it.”

“All 55 episodes from the show’s original television run on Adult Swim are currently available to stream on HBO Max,” he added.

This is not Trippie Redd’s first swing in the animé field. In March, the rapper released a limited-edition Naruto Shippuden T-shirt collection with his brand 1400. According to Fandomspotlite, the line had seven pieces, a combination of shirts and hoodies sold on the 1400club and Spencer’s site.
