Recent polls indicate more Americans disapprove of President Donald Trump, with his disapproval rating reaching a new high.

On Friday, an ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll showed that 62% of Americans disapprove of the president, marking a 2-point increase since February, reflecting growing public concerns about the cost of living, affordability and inflation, according to The Hill.

Trump’s disapproval rises as Americans voice their concerns on key issues

The poll indicates that economic dissatisfaction is a major factor in Trump’s declining approval. Seventy-two percent of respondents disapprove of his handling of inflation, a 7-point increase in just two months, while only 27% approve, and 1% skipped the question.

Meanwhile, 76% disapprove of his handling of the U.S. cost of living, while 23% approve, and 1% skipped the question. Many are facing rising gas and energy prices, with the core inflation rate at 3.5% in March, a two-year high. The Hill noted the drastic changes are largely attributed to the ongoing conflict in Iran.

What impact will Trump have on the midterms?

In past statements, Trump spoke on affordability and promised that inflation during the war would be temporary. However, many Americans believe otherwise. The poll further shows that 66% of respondents disapprove of Trump’s handling of the Iran war, while only 33% approve. Another 1% skipped the question.

Trump campaigned on many of these issues during his 2024 presidential campaign. He promised that, under his leadership, Americans would witness real changes not seen during the Biden administration. However, now in his second term, Trump’s approval rating has fallen to 35%, according to a recent CNN poll.

In late January 2025, he had a 50% approval rating, but over the course of the year, those numbers began to decline significantly. From his immigration crackdown nationwide to his handling of the Iran war, many Americans are gearing up to have their voices heard during the midterms.
