Following Tuesday's news that all criminal charges against actor Jussie Smollett were dropped, President Donald Trump called for an FBI investigation into the case.

On Thursday morning, Trump referred to the case as "outrageous."

"FBI & DOJ to review the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago. It is an embarrassment to our Nation!" Trump wrote.

The Empire co-star was indicted on 16 charges for allegedly lying to Chicago police and orchestrating what he alleged was a racist and homophobic attack.

Chicago officials, including Mayor Rahm Emanuel, were not pleased about the decision to drop the charges. He called the latest development a "whitewash of justice." The 36-year-old actor is also being attacked by the right for reportedly cheating the justice system.

Trump's latest tweet also comes on the heels of a new report claiming Chicago police paid for hotel rooms for the two Nigerian-American brothers involved in the Smollett hate crime case.

According to a report from The Associated Press, police allegedly paid for a six-night hotel stay for Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo. The brothers had 24-hour round-the-clock security to avoid media.

In a series of redacted records, the names of the two men can be seen blacked out as if to hide their identities. They reportedly stayed at the Chicago South Loop Hotel near the city's McCormick Place convention center from February 15-21.

The Osundairos were the primary suspects in the alleged late-January attack. No other suspects have been identified.

Smollett alleged he was beaten by two men who yelled racist and anti-gay slurs at him, doused him with a chemical substance and placed a noose around his neck.

More details regarding the case reveal that Smollett's attorneys are insisting the brothers carried out the assault. During an interview with NBC's Today Show, Smollett's attorney, Tina Glandian, said her client only saw one of the men's faces. She claimed one of them was wearing white makeup.

Glandian told the show's hosts one brother wore a ski mask, while the other may have used makeup. In the past, the brothers wore whiteface as part of a Joker skit.

“Well, you know, I mean, I think there’s — obviously, you can disguise that. You can put makeup on. There is, interestingly enough, a video," she said.

"You know, I think the police had minimal investigation in this case, it took me only five minutes to Google. You know, I was looking up the brothers, and one of the videos that showed up actually was of the brothers in whiteface doing a joker monologue with white makeup on him. So, it’s not — it’s not implausible.”

Page Six reports Smollett's attorneys are moving forward. Attorneys claimed the duo's attorney, Gloria Schmidt, concocted the story claiming Smollett paid them $3,500 to carry out the assault. Reports have confirmed the money was intended for personal training sessions.

The 36-year-old's lawyers want an investigation opened on the brothers.
