Gabourey Sidibe is set to reunite with Precious director Lee Daniels for a recurring role in Empire, Daniels’ upcoming hip hop drama for Fox.
As previously announced, the project stars Terrance Howard as Lucious Lyon, a charismatic but tough chief of a record label titled Empire Entertainment, which is on the verge of an IPO.
Sidibe will play Howard’s hard-working assistant Becky.
Also announced this weekend, Malik Yoba will appear in the series as Vernon Turner, Lucious’s longtime friend from the streets and business associate who is now the chairman of the board of Empire.
Sidibe and Yoba join a star-studded cast that already includes Taraji P. Henson and Jussie Smollett.
Mehcad Brooks (Necessary Roughness, True Blood) has been cast in the CW drama Identity.
The pilot focuses on a family with suspected ties to domestic terrorism. Brooks is set to play Brennan, a driven, unorthodox CIA agent.
