Some quickie TV news bits…
First, Toni Trucks has booked a regular role on TNT’s Franklin & Bash. She’ll play a character named Anita Herrera, a new hire at the firm, who’s smart and tough. The show was renewed for a fourth season on October 17, 2013.
Second, Jocko Sims has been promoted to series regular on another TNT series, The Last Ship – a new post-apocalyptic drama that executive produced by Michael Bay, which revolves around the crew of a lone naval destroyer after a global pandemic who must find a way to pull humanity from the brink of extinction. Sims plays a character named Dalton Burk, who’s described as a charismatic and tough Navy lieutenant.
Third, I stumbled upon online ads for WEtv’s first original scripted series The Divide – the Richard LaGravenese/Tony Goldwyn drama, that stars Damon Gupton as Adam Powell – a district attorney who uncovers new evidence that prompts the re-investigation of a sensational murder case. Nia Long plays his wife, Billie Powell, a hard-charging successful partner in a private equity firm. Also, Seth Gilliam (The Wire), as well as Clarke Peters (also of The Wire, Treme, and more) play supporting roles as Adam’s younger brother, a novice, naive cop, and Adam’s father, Isaiah Page, a retired cop and the former Philadelphia police commissioner. Marin Ireland (Homeland, Mildred Pierce) rounds out the cast of what has always read like a stellar project to me, based on what we know of it thus far. I followed the ads to WEtv’s website, hoping to find a first trailer, or some images, or a hi-res version of the ad, but came up empty. So this mini version is all that’s currently available apparently. But it means that a debut date is near (one has yet to be announced) as is a trailer.
