Twitter was out in full force as we entered into a new decade, but the best part may have been the unifying response to the anti-Black foolery that emerged. Social media has remained a hotspot of endless verbal abuse directed toward Black women, yet Twitter stepped up to defend our queens and children while spreading a little positivity by changing their profile pictures to photos of their younger selves.
Earlier this week, Ari Lennox spoke out against a Twitter user who thought it was his dutiful job to call her and Teyana Taylor Rottweilers.
People hate blackness so bad https://t.co/yXtTmhyf1S
— Ari Lennox (@AriLennox) January 1, 2020
Rightfully upset, she called on parents to encourage their children to love and embrace their Blackness.
Moms and Dads please love on your beautiful black children. Tell them they’re beautiful constantly. Tell them Black people are beautiful. Tell them black features are beautiful.
— Ari Lennox (@AriLennox) January 1, 2020
The disrespectful comment reignited a conversation centered around comparing Black people to animals and colorism.
Lennox took her time to explain the problematic issues behind Black women constantly being under attack and having to defend themselves.
"I'm not with it," she said. "How people hate Black people so much. How Black people can sit up here and say 'That's not my problem.'"
And as if that wasn't enough, two news writers thought it was laughable to mock Blue Ivy Carter's facial features after Megan Thee Stallion posted a picture of them cheesing it up with Beyoncé.
"I have a feeling the Jay-Z face genes are about to really hit Blue Ivy and I feel so sorry for her,” the writer said in a now-deleted tweet.
Similarly to Lennox who has previously defended her physical features, Blue Ivy has been taunted and teased online for her natural hair.
In an attempt to show support for all the Blackness we give the world and denounce anti-Black claims, Twitter users stood united and changed their profile pics, and we just can't be more proud.
Here are your Tweets of the week.
I saw the negative comments made by that Black man & white woman about Blue Ivy's physical appearance. I would love it if any & every Black woman on here that gives a damn about little Black girls changed their avi to childhood photo of themselves. I'll do it.

I'm late, but @thepbg said Black women should change their avi to a childhood photo of themselves so here I am.

However, Twitter just wouldn't be itself without a hint of foolery and new memes. NBA legend Kobe Bryant's quiet discussion with his daughter became a launching pad for some of the funniest content Twitter had to offer this week.
