Tyler Perry's family has rising concerns of foul play after his 26-year-old nephew hanged himself in a Louisiana prison Tuesday night.
According to TMZ, Perry's nephew, Gavin Porter, was in solitary confinement after getting involved in a physical altercation with another inmate over the weekend at a prison facility near St. Helena Parish.
After Porter was placed in solitary confinement, guards checked on him around 6 p.m. and didn't find anything concerning. When guards returned at 8 p.m. they found him dead of an apparent suicide.
Sources tell TMZ that Porter hanged himself with bedsheets while in his cell.
Porter's mom, the filmmaker's sister, was informed by prison officials of his death. His mom was told that no foul play was suspected, but Perry's family believes otherwise.
Porter was initially in prison for fatally shooting his biological father in front of his mother during an argument in 2016. He pled no contest to manslaughter and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.
