As the saying goes, bada bing, bada boom! I come bearing good news…

Fresh off the success of his feature film debut, "Dear White People," Justin Simien is attached to direct Anthony Mackie in a Paramount Pictures acquisition of a 2013 Black List comedy script titled "Make A Wish," penned by newbie Zach Frankel.

Per Deadline, Mackie will star in "Make a Wish," playing a character named Butchie Jones, a star football player intent on granting the final wish of a dying 14-year-old fan. However, the task proves more challenging than expected when Butchie finds out that the kid’s wish is to lose his virginity before he dies. 

This sounds like quite a turn for Mackie, who really isn’t known for comedies, nor is he afforded many opportunities to star, especially in studio-backed projects; and I’m certainly intrigued, especially with Simien at the helm.

Robert Teitel and Jason Spire will produce "Make a Wish," with Mackie executive producing along with Jason Newman and Jason Weinberg.

2015 is setting up to be a busy year for Mackie, with at least 4 projects scheduled for release throughout the year. 

Meanwhile, Simien’s "Dear White People" is up for Best First Screenplay and Best First Feature 2015 Spirit Awards honors.
