Vanessa Bryant and her three daughters will receive almost $30 million after photographs from the fatal helicopter crash that killed Kobe and Gianna Bryant were distributed.
The wife of the late NBA superstar has agreed to accept $28.85 million in exchange for ending her lawsuit against those she accused of taking and sharing the photos in January 2020.
“Today marks the successful culmination of Mrs. Bryant’s courageous battle to hold accountable those who engaged in this grotesque conduct,” Bryant’s attorney, Luis Li, said in a statement, according to USA Today. “She fought for her husband, her daughter, and all those in the community whose deceased family were treated with similar disrespect. We hope her victory at trial and this settlement will put an end to this practice.”
During the trial, the jury determined the Los Angeles County fire and sheriff’s departments violated Bryant’s privacy rights by using the gruesome photos of Kobe and Gianna as souvenirs or objects of amusement.
