Brand new trailer for WB's Superman reboot, which isn't scheduled to be released until summer 2013, titled Man Of Steel.
This one is directed by Zack Snyder, with Henry Cavill starring as the title character; Christopher Nolan (whose Dark Knight trilogy has done very well for the WB) is acting as producer, and even though we have yet to see the entire film, I'd say we can already see some of his influence, considering how much contemplative and moodier this looks and feels.
Of course, I'm sure there'll be plenty of action to complement, as we see towards the trailer's latter half.
The 2006 Superman Returns, helmed by Bryan Singer, didn't recieve quite the reception WB likely hoped for, grossing $200 million domestically, which would be excellent for the average Hollywood movie; but this was supposed to be box office dynamite, especially since the last time we'd seen Superman on the big screen was in 1987, 19 years prior.
Toss in the fact that Superman Returns had a production budget of $270 million (not including marketing), and that $200 million domestic doesn't impress.
So I'm sure the WB likely feels that this is a franchise that still has some juice left in it; and I'd guess that Chrisopher Nolan's success with the Dark Knight franchise, launched 2 years after Superman Returns, may have been of some influence to revive the man from Krypton – and understandably, with some help from Nolan.
The pressure is on for Zach Snyder I'd say, who should be feeling really lucky right now to have been granted a project of this stature, since his last 3 films (all for WB) haven't exaclly been hits (compared to budget) nor critical darlings: Sucker Punch, Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole and Watchmen (if he was a black director, would he be continuously given chances like this, even after failures?).
As fars as I'm concerned, Dawn Of The Dead is still the best thing on his resume.
I should also remind you that Laurence Fishburne was cast to play Perry White, the Daily Planet editor-in-chief, in the next Superman movie, Man of Steel. I believe Harry Lennix also has a role, as a high-ranking military officer named General Swanwick.
The rest of the solid cast includes: Amy Adams, Michael Shannon, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Antje Traue, Ayelet Zurer, Christopher Meloni, and Russell Crowe.
June 14th (its release date) seems like a long way away, but time flies…
