More holiday weekend viewing. This time it’s a short film, courtesy of our friends at the Afro-Europe blog.
Titled Sorry We Don’t Help Darkies, its synopsis reads:
A Caribbean family living in London’s Notting Hill during the tension and violence that led to the 1958 race riots, comes to a brutal realisation that life in post war Britain is far from the ‘Mother Country’ that would welcome them with open arms as they had been told to get them aboard the ‘Empire Windrush’ boat to help England…
It’s a predicament faced by many West Indian migrants while living in the so-called “Mother Country” during those years.
Travis Watson is the writer, director and editor of the film.
