Well… here it is. Not only is it the first trailer, but they’re unleashing it on us in red-band form; forget opening with a G-rated trailer.
The big-screen adaptation of the popular late 1980s/early ’90s TV cop drama 21 Jump Street, which is scheduled to hit theaters on March 16, 2012, starring Channing Tatum, Jonah Hill, DeRay Davis, Brie Larson and Ice Cube.
The film’s official synopsis reads:
In the action-comedy 21 Jump Street, Schmidt (Jonah Hill) and Jenko (Channing Tatum) are more than ready to leave their adolescent problems behind. Joining the police force and the secret Jump Street unit, they use their youthful appearances to go undercover in a local high school. As they trade in their guns and badges for backpacks, Schmidt and Jenko risk their lives to investigate a violent and dangerous drug ring. But they find that high school is nothing like they left it just a few years earlier and neither expects that they will have to confront the terror and anxiety of being a teenager again and all the issues they thought they had left behind.
Directed by the tag-team of Phil Lord and Chris Miller (Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs), the movie is rated R of course.
Ice Cube plays the Captain role, which was Steven Williams’ in the original TV series; Mr DeRay Davis will play a character named Domingo, a tattooed leader of a biker gang that doubles as a drug ring. Johnny Depp and Holly Robinson Peete are expected to make cameo appearances.
