Here’s your first look at the upcoming thriller Runner Runner, starring Ben Affleck, Justin Timberlake and Anthony Mackie, directed by Brad Furman, whose previous film was the
Matthew McConaughey legal thriller, The Lincoln Lawyer.
The film’s basic premise, which you’ve seen before, deals
with a young man who falls under the sway of a seductive and manipulative older
mentor, only to realize too late that he’s a lot more dangerous than he was led
to believe, and that he’s in big trouble.
But in Runner Runner, Timberlake “plays a Princeton grad student Richie
believing he’s been swindled, who travels to Costa Rica to confront online
gambling tycoon Ivan Block (Affleck).
Richie is seduced by Block’s promise of immense wealth, until he learns the
disturbing truth about his benefactor. When the FBI (represented by Mackie playing
a generic FBI officer) tries to coerce Richie to help bring down Block, Richie
faces his biggest gamble ever, attempting to outmaneuver the two forces
closing in on him.“
See, I told you that you’ve seen it before. You know like The Firm, for example, just to name one.
The films open on Sept.
27th.
