We covered filmmaker Mohamed Dione's short film Maffe Tiga – starring Dione and Marie Josephine Zoumanigui – exactly a year ago, last November, and since then, it's been screened at several film festivals around the world.

So far, it's been shown at the Black Harvest Film Festival in Chicago, the 7th edition of the Kenya International Film Festival in Kenya, The Soul Bliss Festival, and the 15th annual African American Women in Cinema Film Festival.

And on top of that, it was nominated for an African Movie Academy Award in Nigeria.

Dione describes his film as a "romantic dramedy about a young African woman who finds that love is the true connection between her heritage and her future. After struggling to make ends meet and relationship trouble, an unexpected letter from her grandmother reveals that generations of women in her family have faced similar challenges. Rather than giving up, they pass down a secret that draws them closer to each other and to their dreams."

Both Dione and Zoumanigui are natives of Guinea, which was a major inspiration for the film. As Ms. Zoumanigui said last year: "This movie is so important to us because a lot of people don't know of the talent that our country Guinea has. You always hear of Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, etc, but never Guinea. The goal we are trying to reach with this film, is to put our country, talents and stories among the world’s film industry."
