The fact that 2 actors I whose work I appreciate (Michael Jai White and Charles S. Dutton) are starring in this very likely strictly home entertainment release, is enough reason for me to want to check it out, even though it looks like a knock-off of films like Robocop, and even the new NBC show Almost Human, which follows a man/machine cop tag-team.
Titled Android Cop, the film comes from The Asylum studios, the producer/distributor of low-budget, direct-to-video productions that capitalize on productions by major studios, usually resorting to film titles and scripts very similar to those of current blockbusters in order to lure customers.
You may have seen or at least heard of Sharknado, which was their most recent release, and which aired on SyFy a few months ago with a lot of success.
The synopsis for Android Cop reads:
In this futuristic, action-packed thriller, a cop and his robotic partner enter the Zone, a forbidden section of the city inhabited by a diseased stricken populace. Together, they discover the real reason everyone is sick, and attempt to stop the illness – with the help of the machine’s powerful technology and weaponry.
Kadeem Hardison, Randy Wayne, Delpaneaux Wills and Larissa Vereza round out the cast.
