Earlier this week, I attended a press screening of the recut version of Spike Lee's much-discussed and debated Red Hook Summer; and even though I saw it at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and reviewed it soon after, I plan to write a new review of the film, based on the new edit I saw this week.
That review will be posted in coming weeks, likely the week the film opens.
What I can say with certainty is that I expect this to be another polarizing Spike Lee joint amongst critics as well as audiences, and I'm looking forward to the discussions/debates that will surely follow.
In the meantime, here's a tease, released just moments ago (via MTV), which features Spike as "Mookie" (the character he originated in Do The Right Thing; but, as he's said multiple times, this isn't a sequel to that 1989 classic). Although, given the content of his short speech (especially at the intro of it), this could also very well be Spike talking about himself:
