Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen was heckled out of a Mexican restaurant a day after she said the Trump administration was unapologetic about their immigration policies, The New York Post reports.
On Tuesday (June 19) around 8 p.m. ET, Nielsen and an unidentified man were dining at a Mexican restaurant in downtown Washington, D.C. when a group of protestors confronted her.
In a 10-minute long video posted on the Metro D.C. Democratic Socialists of America’s Facebook page, the hecklers can be seen cycling through various chants including, “Shame, shame” and “Abolish ICE.”
Protesters criticized the recently publicized audio of an immigration official making fun of detained children crying for their parents. At one point, a protester noted the irony of Nielsen eating at a Mexican restaurant.
“In a Mexican restaurant of all places,” the person yelled. “The f**king gall.”
Another video showed the pair leaving the restaurant about 20 minutes later.

Tyler Q. Houlton, a rep for the Department of Homeland Security, later tweeted a statement downplaying the incident.
“The Secretary and her staff heard from a small group of protesters who share her concern with our current immigration laws that have created a crisis on our southern border,” Houlton said.
On Monday, Nielsen defended the Trump administration’s immigration policies during a speech at the National Sheriffs’ Association Conference, according to CNN.
"We will not apologize for the job we do or for the job law enforcement does for doing the job that the American people expect us to do," she said. "Illegal actions have and must have consequences. No more free passes, no more get out of jail free cards."
