A new season of the ITVS Futurestates program is apparently coming soon (May 14), if the countdown on the initiative’s website, as well as the just-released trailer below, is any indication.
Each episode presents a different vision of American society in the not-too-distant future, by each filmmaker (or as ITVS calls them, “Independent Prognosticators“) – using speculative fiction to explore, on film, social issues.
We’ve been following the series since its first season, featuring some great Futurestates films from filmmakers like Barry Jenkins, A. Sayeeda Clarke, Tina Mabry, Julian Breece and others, and I expect there’ll be more this season for us to cover.
While I wait to learn more about what’s in store for this season, which will be its 5th and final season, here’s the new teaser trailer announcement, which looks to be more of a collaboration than separate and individual short films – “8 stories, 1 interactive storyworld, a whole new kind of web series. Unlock your potential, explore the future. http://futurestates.tv/.”
