The romantic soaper The Vow edged out Denzel Washington's thriller Safe House, though the film over-performed, pulling in $10 million more than what experts predicted it would make this weekend. This makes it the second biggest b.o. opening for Washington after American Gangster, which pulled in $43.5 million on its opening weekend. People love Denzel when he's mean.

On the other end, Red Tails slipped out of the the top ten list into the No. 11 slot and is out of gas, while The Descendants still steadily, makes money week after week becoming writer/director Alexander Payne's most successful film to date.
