Sorry folks, I would have had this weekend's box office report much earlier as usual, but I had to wait to get this weekend's results for Pariah which took longer than usual. But I'll get to that in a minute.
As I stated yesterday The Devil Inside, the film that's hated with such intensity by dumb teenagers but who flocked to see it, was No. 1 this weekend, making almost $35 million. Though it didn't reach the $40 million that was projected, that's still an impressive haul for a film that cost under $1 million to make.
That knocked Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol to second place, but it's not as if anyone is crying, The film is headed for well over $200 million domestically, and has already grossed $500 million overseas.
But as for Pariah, the news is very good. The movie, still in a limited platform release before breaking out wider, increased its box office take 130%, opening in 7 more cities this weekend, now playing in 11 theaters nationwide, and has grossed, as of today, $235,000.
Strong word of mouth and great reviews no doubt are helping the film.
And for those who had some negative things to say about the box office results for the film last week, even accusing me of blatant favoritism towards an excellent black film, I absolutely agree with you. I am. So there. So what are you going to do, have me arrested?
