Blade was one of, if not, the very first successful comic book films with a Black lead in the modern era of the genre. The trilogy ended on a sour note when Blade: Trinity, didn’t perform as well as anticipated, for various reasons.

There have been rumors for years of talks behind closed doors between Wesley Snipes and various executives at Marvel Studios about the possibility of him returning to the silver screen as the character, Eric Brooks. Snipes and Blade were a perfect marriage, much like RDJ and Iron Man or Ryan Reynolds and Deadpool would become in years after. It felt like he was born to play the role. From the haircut down to the trench coat, he defined who Blade was in a way that no one else could have. So the possibility of any other actor (or actress) taking up the mantle would definitely be strange, and possibly met with some pushback.

Not long ago, on his Twitter account, Snipes finally broke his silence on the matter and made his desires clear, creating a huge Blade lituation for internet fanboys like myself.

The only question that remains, is Marvel ready to bet on Wesley Snipes and Blade again? After the last of the trilogy, it seems as though the Hollywood comic book movie collective forgot about uncle Wes, and any other potential Black lead protagonists for that matter.

With a solo series for The Punisher (a frequent collaborator of Blade) coming to Netflix, there’s definitely room for the character to make his entrance. And, like any good Blade stan would do, I’ve mapped the most logical way this character could exist in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s blockbuster dynasty in the coming years.

We’ll have to wait and see what plans Marvel has for Blade the character and Wesley Snipes, but hopefully we’ll get to see some badass vampire, martial arts, knife throwing action some time in the near future.
