St. Luke's Hospital nurse Shelbi Heenan thought she was headed out for an evening of Halloween fun with her husband in a poor iteration of Beyoncé and Jay-Z.

The Missouri couple posted photos of themselves rocking all black, gold chains and one other accessory — black skin.

Shelbi wore black tights, a black shirt, a silver skirt, a curly wig and colored her skin a caramel brown tone. The nurse stood next to her husband who wore blue jeans, a white T-shirt, black vest, black beanie and dark brown painted skin.

Kansas City's flagship NPR reporter Andrea Tudhope shared photos of the couple and tweeted that a high school classmate identified Heenan’s husband as Jasmond Heenan.

Within 24 hours of posting the pictures on Facebook, Heenan was fired from her job at St. Luke’s after someone notified hospital personnel of the post.

A hospital spokesperson released a public statement regarding St. Luke’s stance on the matter.

“While it is against Saint Luke’s policy to comment on specific personnel matters, we can confirm that this individual is no longer a Saint Luke’s employee,” the spokesperson stated. “Saint Luke’s is deeply committed to our culture of diversity and inclusion. It is fundamental to who we are as an organization, and we vigorously protect it on behalf of all our patients and employees and expect those who represent us to do the same."

The history of blackface dates back to 1930s minstrelsy shows involving comedic skits where white men donned black greasepaint to mock people of African descent. The nurse's termination follows a recent scandal involving The Today Show host Megyn Kelly who was fired for condoning the use of blackface for Halloween costumes.

Fox 4KC reports that back in 2009, Heenan also dressed as a member of Destiny’s Child.

The former nurse’s Facebook account is currently inactive.
