"Go back to your country!"
"We don't want you here!"
"Speak English, this is America!"
These phrases are a few of many that have been heard by foreign-born citizens, naturalized citizens, undocumented people, refugees and asylees.
Many of those who were not born in the United States heard of the American dream ideal. They heard from their teachers, parents, mentors and politicians, that one should go study in America, live in America, prosper in America because America is the land of opportunity. Well, I am here to tell you that it is all a lie.
When you arrive in America, you place yourself at risk of getting arrested, not finding a job, getting murdered by police and improper medical attention. So, when you hear someone tell you to go back to "your country," consider replying, "gladly."
America is the biggest hypocrite in the world. It preaches equality but forgets to treat its own people with dignity and respect.
When George Floyd was killed in Minneapolis, the Black community and its allies erupted in a fury. They marched the streets, chanted, screamed, demanded and begged for justice. Then came Breonna Taylor, Rayshard Brooks, Tamir Rice, Sandra Bland, Elijah McClain and Trayvon Martin, along with many whose deaths were not caught on camera — and justice still has not been served. And it's not an oversight. Their deaths were heard worldwide, as allies marched in the streets demanding equality for Blacks in America, especially in regards to police brutality.
Black Americans are 3.23 times more likely than white Americans to be killed by police, according to a new study by researchers from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. The researchers examined 5,494 police-related deaths in the U.S. between 2013 and 2017. For example, Black Chicagoans were found to be over 650% more likely to be killed by police than white Chicagoans.
Black Americans see their brothers and sisters dying on the news because of their skin color, and the government seems to not care. They say they will implement new police training to fix the issue, but that does not change the fact that it is 2020 and Black men and women are still dying because of the color of their skin.
So, to all those who cannot wait to come to America to live a better life, or follow your dreams, as a citizen I am begging you, as of now, stay as far away as possible. History has shown that law enforcement will kill you, people will discriminate against you, the government will put you in the most impoverished living area and blame it all on you. So, please, save yourselves and run. You may be better off without it.
