I pulled into the garage at my apartment in midtown Dallas, and I saw a Cadillac CTS coupe pulling out. In the driver seat was a young man, not much younger than myself. There was also a young lady in the passenger seat, seemingly comfortable and happy as her man flicked his Bic and lit his blunt while the gate opened slowly. Once the gate was clear, he smashed the gas and went on about his day. It was like trust, vulnerability, compassion and compromise made one beautiful fragrance that lingered as he sped off.

I smiled as I drove up the ramp because it was 100% apparent that these two individuals trusted and believed in one another. I mean, it felt as if, even if they were all each other had, they both had more than enough because they had each other.

I could be completely wrong about this couple, but that is not the point of this brief deposition on taking risks. This young couple made me think about how afraid to take risks we become as we get older — risks in our careers and our personal lives. I immediately thought about safety nets. I thought about how a lot of us will never reach our full potential because we love being safe.

I think about people who feel they have nothing to lose when chasing destiny. And because they go all-in without the fear of loss, they end up gaining everything they dreamed of having. On the flip side, those who feel like they have everything to lose when making destiny decisions, typically never change their destiny, allowing fear to awake them to the same reality. My favorite book that touches on this is The Alchemist, by Paulo Coelho

So there it is — drop your nets!

Take risks and be vulnerable!

Take risks in business. Take risks in relationships. Take risks in life — or suffer the consequences of today, tomorrow.

I have to finish by saying this: for those who are thinking that I am saying go out and be reckless, you’re missing the point. I’m simply saying be fully invested in attaining what you want. Be it love, money, freedom — whatever it is — invest fully in it’s manifestation, mind, body and soul. Because on the other side of your fear, is your fortune.

So I say to you again, drop your nets!
