[SPOILER WARNING – Please note this contains spoilers for the season two premiere of Insecure.]

Season two of Insecure premiered last night and I feel like I’ve made a pact with the devil—something was touched somewhere deep within me and even if I want to, I know I won't be able to look away until the season is over. The episode threw me right into the middle of my feelings without warning, and it’s not just because Issa took a huge L, but also because we all know that Tasha—innocent, I just want to tell you what a good man you are all day, Tasha—is probably going to be collateral damage of Lawrence and Issa's relationship warfare. And as a former card-carrying member of #TeamLawrence, I'm here to say this is already out of control and he needs to be stopped.

Last season I accepted that he was hurt and Issa was wrong. The only thing worse than a cheater is a sloppy cheater, and Issa was sloppy AF. But Lawrence is now fully out here doing too much. He outmaneuvered our girl last night, strategically and skillfully, from not showing up when he said he would and asking her to mail his stupid letter (which, negro please—snail mail is barbaric and I'm not going through the hassle of stamps and risking paper cuts for this foolishness), to then showing up UNANNOUNCED at the crib when her defenses were down. He knew the soldiers were sleeping and that it was safe to cross No Man’s Land the minute she opened the door wearing boy shorts, and that sad puppy dog face that Issa Rae does so well. He went in, successfully (and without protection), for the quickie and capped it off with an insult-to-injury kiss on the cheek and rushed goodbye—which gave #TeamLawrence reason to celebrate, and left #TeamIssa wondering if that really just happened.

That entire situation is enough of a hot mess on its own, but the added element of his hooking up regularly with Tasha makes it clear that this man just needs to have a seat in the corner. While we know Issa’s ultimate goal is to lure him back, and it seems like Tasha really likes him, we’re not clear on what Lawrence is doing besides trying to ignore his pain and flex his petty muscle. Does he even like Tasha? Is he open to the possibility of developing something more with her? Does he think he could ever get back together with Issa?

I don't think Lawrence himself knows the answers to these questions and until he does, he needs to put little Lawrence to bed. You can't sex pain away. Eventually you need to feel it, wallow in it, and process it if you hope to truly move on. Hoping we’ll get to see him figure that out as the season continues.
