Former Atlanta Falcons runningback Justin Crawford was arrested in Columbus, Georgia, after he was caught in a compromising position with a 12-year-old girl.

The 23-year-old is charged with aggravated child molestation, sodomy and enticing a child for indecent purposes, reports The Ledger-Enquirer.

Columbus police said Crawford’s wife, Chakeya, walked into her living room at 5 a.m. on Saturday and saw him standing over the child with an erect penis. The woman walked away and went back to sleeping, hoping to address the situation later.

Chakeya gave a different account directly to the publication. She denied seeing an erection or any sexual activity but admitted her husband’s penis was exposed. Justin ran off and when Chakeya caught up, he told her, “You scared me. That’s why I ran.”

Chakeya took the girl to her mother, and the child said they engaged in sexual intercourse after she gave him oral sex. The girl received a medical exam, and a rape kit was used to collect DNA evidence.

When questioned by the police, Justin initially denied any wrongdoing. He later claimed the act was the girl’s idea. He is currently being held in Muscogee County Jail without bond.

Justin was signed to the Falcons as a free agent on May 1 before he was removed on September 1. He recently signed a contract with the newly formed Alliance of American Football League's Atlanta Legends squad but was dropped after he was arrested, according to WXIA.
