Smith cracked jokes with Ellis and Feinberg, telling the crowd that he was in a happy mood. As the affable actor discussed his career and the steps he took to become a viable movie star, a commotion occurred in the audience, causing Smith to inquire if the audience member was OK.

“Is she OK?” Smith asked, peering into the crowd while shielding his eyes from the stage lights.

A woman responded that someone “totally just poured a drink on us because we said, ‘This is f**king amazing.’ Apparently, we’re being too loud. But we love you, Will.”

Smith then turned to Ellis and humorously gave kudos to white audiences for how they handle conflict in comparison to Black people.

“That’s why it’s really important to have white audiences, ’cause that would have gone very differently at either place where we grew up. So I wanna commend the white people for how y’all handled that. You wanna act out the scene, how it would’ve been if someone poured a drink on you?” Smith joked to Ellis.

Without skipping a beat, Ellis proceeded to mime taking off her earrings and unstrapping her heels in preparation of serving a necessary beatdown, which drew a boisterous laugh from Smith, the moderator and the audience.

“You’re not gonna make it back from that, Scott! You can try,” the actor said to Feinberg as they attempted to resume their conversation.

Smith explained that he strategically planned out his career with his manager James Lassiter, who he went to school with in Philadelphia. Lassiter went on to law school and managed Smith and DJ Jazzy Jeff when they performed together.

“JL is a really thorough thinker. I am a big giant dreamer … I said to him when I was about 21 years old that I wanted to be the biggest movie star in the world, and he said, ‘OK, let me figure that out,'” Smith said.
