Yara Shahidi, Kedar Williams-Stirling, Keith Powers and Renée Elise Goldsberry have been tapped to star in the upcoming film Bloom.
The film will see the main characters navigate love in the idyllic locale of Tuscany in the coming-of-age romance pic.
According to Deadline, the four actors are in talks to star in the romance film from Cole Swanson. The film marks Swanson’s feature-length debut, directing from his own screenplay. Swanson’s previous works have been shorts, including Black Don’t Crack, Art Therapy, Baby, Blame, and his latest short Betty & Blue, starring Keith David and Dane Clarke II.
Bloom follows Ace (Williams-Stirling), a Black artist who has moved to Italy on a university scholarship. According to Deadline, “In his time there, he forges unexpected friendships and ignites a passionate romance, all within the captivating orbit of a defiant and opulent circle of wealthy young Black adults deemed ‘The Casa Rosa Kids.'”
One description for the movie is bound to get fans of Love Jones interested; according to the outlet, the film has been described as Love Jones in Italy. Prospective audience members also have a “steamy love triangle” to look forward to, all amid the Tuscan countryside.
Pineloft Entertainment (led by Clarke and Joel Poku) helped develop the film and will produce with Broken English Productions’ Jolene Rodriguez. Music consulting will be led by Adam Strawford and 1PLUS1 Productions, created by rapper Skepta.
