If you know the anything about the Atlanta music scene, then you know about Young Thug.
He is one of many Atlanta rappers currently killing the game, and has garnered acclaim for his genre-defying and experimental music.
His unorthodox approach has won him many fans, some of whom were in attendance at New York City's Terminal 5 on June 29, where Young Thug gave a concert in support of his most recent album, Beautiful Thugger Girls.
The concert was full of surprises, including a guest appearance by Lil Yatchy, but the biggest surprise came after the concert was over in the form of a tweet.
I'm donating the proceeds from my show tonight to @PPFA. I was a teenage parent. Planned+unplanned parenthood is beautiful ????❤️— Young Thug ひ (@youngthug) June 30, 2017
Planned Parenthood doesn't reveal how much its donors give. However, as Teen Vogue noted, Terminal 5 can hold several thousand people, and tickets went for $30 a piece. Although it is hard to say how much promoter fees and other expenses were, Thug's take (and therefore, Planned Parenthood's windfall) from the show could easily have been $20,000.
Not a bad night for Planned Parenthood, we'd say.
The health care organization responded with gratitude to Young Thug’s donation and went on to say, “We welcome new supporters of our work and will continue to educate communities about the rights of women, men and young people. That includes a woman’s ability to decide if and when she will have a child, under what conditions, and that she has the support to live in communities without fear of violence.”
Planned Parenthood has described itself as “the nation’s leading reproductive health care provider and advocate,” and in the same press release that followed Thug's donation, referenced its current political troubles.
Washington conservatives and evangelicals have long used the organization as a heel, and the Senate recently revealed that its plan to destroy Obamacare includes completely defunding Planned Parenthood for one year.
If you want to be like Young Thug, Planned Parenthood would probably love your support; and if like Mitch McConnell, you hate it as you hate hell and all Montagues, you can tell your senators to hurry up and kill by giving them a call.
