New year, new me is the motto NBA YoungBoy is standing behind after revealing his plans to convert to Mormonism. During an interview with Billboard, YoungBoy shared he was emotionally in a dark place while completing house arrest in Utah and began taking an interest in different religions.

According to Hip-HopVibe, Mormon missionaries visited his house while he was serving his time at home. Initially uninterested, he turned them away but later changed his mind. NBA YoungBoy said he eventually felt the right thing to do was to invite them in and start his new journey.

“I wanted help very badly. I needed a friend. And it hit me. It was just cool to see someone with a different mindset that had nothing to do with business or money — just these wonderful souls,” he said.

NBA YoungBoy said he regrets creating and distributing violent lyrics in many of his hit songs following his first release at the age of 15 and remaining a consistent and top-streamed artist year after year.

According to Hip-HopVibe, in 2022, he released eight projects that fans and music critics applauded. In one of his hit songs, “I Admit,” from his Ma, I Got a Family mixtape, he collaborated with Nicki Minaj, and then shortly after, he released his album I Rest My Case.

“I’m at a point now in my life where I just know hurting people is not the way, and I feel very manipulated, even at this moment. I was set on being the greatest at what I did and what I spoke about. Man, I was flooded with millions of dollars from the time I was 16 all the way to this point, and I woke up one morning like, ‘Damn. They got me. They made me do their dirty work.’ Man, look at the s**t I put in these people’s ears,” he said.

Over time, YoungBoy developed a friendship with the Mormon missionaries after daily visits where they taught him about The Book of Mormon.

According to The Jasmine Brand, the missionaries were focused on preparing him for baptism by ensuring his “heart was in the right space.”

Hip-HopVibe reports that his baptism into The Church of Latter-Day Saints will occur after his house arrest.

“Even when my negative thoughts come back, when I do want to tell them, ‘Not today,’ I just don’t let nothing stop it.”

Despite what die-hard fans may feel after this life-changing announcement, NBA YoungBoy is confidently turning the page.
