Two people were killed and 70 others were injured in a crash involving an Amtrak passenger train and a freight train on Sunday morning. The Amtrak train, which had 139 passengers and eight crew members on it, was traveling between New York and Miami, CNN reports.

Amtrak Train 91 collided with a CSX freight train around 2:35 a.m. Sunday in Cayce, South Carolina. In a statement, Amtrak confirmed that the lead engine and some passenger cars derailed at the time of the crash.

All passengers were evacuated from the train Sunday morning; those injured during the accident endured a range of injuries from scrapes and bruises to broken bones and were transported to a nearby hospital, according to Lexington County spokesman Harrison Cahill.

Authorities on the scene have estimated about 5,000 gallons of fuel were spilled, but Cahill added that there was "no threat to the public at the time."

Derek Pettaway was a passenger on Amtrak Train 91. Pettaway told CNN that he was headed to Orlando, Florida and he was awakened by the impact of the accident. He recalls the train crew coming through the train cars to evacuate everyone.

"Nobody was panicking," Pettaway said. "I think people were more in shock than anything else."

Pettaway was transported to the hospital and was discharged with minor whiplash to the shelter for passengers who didn't sustain major injuries at nearby Pine Ridge Middle School.

This is one of a few train accidents that have occurred in the past few months. In December, an Amtrak train derailed near DuPont in Washington state and went off an overpass, killing three people and injuring dozens. Just last week, an Amtrak train carrying members of Congress to a retreat in West Virginia struck a truck near Charlottesville, Virginia.
