Hurricane Harvey has wreaked havoc across east Texas in the past week bringing historic flooding that has displaced thousands. According to reports, the death toll has climbed to 50 and there have been an estimated 50 inches of rainfall in the Houston area.
One of the most heartbreaking stories out of east Texas has been the recovery of 3-year-old Jordyn Grace who was found holding on to her mother's dead body.
“Mama was saying her prayers,” the 3-year-old, recovering on Wednesday in a Beaumont hospital, told a relative, nurse Antionette Logan, 38.
“Jordyn told me they were in the yucky water for quite a while,” Logan said. “It’s a tragedy that her mama died, but it’s a miracle that Jordyn survived.”
Earlier last week, Jordyn was rescued by a Zodiac boat in Beaumont, Texas with only a pink backpack in hand. At the time, rescuers saw that the child's mother was unresponsive and Jordyn was suffering from hypothermia as reported by The New York Times. It was a miracle the girl did not succumb to flood waters as did her mother.
News about this story prompted businessman and film producer Michael Skolnik to start a GoFundMe campaign to help out. The campaign, which launched three days ago, has raised $162,750 of the original $100K goal and donations are still coming in by the hour.

Two days ago, Skolnik updated the donors on the GoFundMe page letting them know his next steps.
"While the family was hoping to have a meeting this afternoon, many of them are still in danger from flooding and lack of running water, so they are very focused on making sure that all members of their family are safe," he wrote.
"Once I speak with the entire family, I will let you all know. Until then, please continue to share this campaign with your friends and family to raise as much as we possibly can for this precious angel. I am forever thankful for all of your kindness, generosity and compassion. Thank you!"
The campaign is still going strong. If you can, head over to the GoFundMe page to help out Jordyn during this trying time.
