Seth Gilliam (The Wire) has joined the cast of AMC’s The Walking Dead, joining other The Wire alumni, Chad Coleman (who plays Tyreese) and Lawrence Gilliard Jr (who plays Bob)..

No word yet on what character Gilliam will play exactly, so I’ll defer to those of you who’ve read the comics that the series is based on, to chime in with your thoughts on just what this mystery role might be.

To assist, the released character breakdown sheet lists a “Michael Todd,” but his real name is being kept under wraps (likely because fans of the comic series will recognize it). “Michael Todd” is described as “displaying a friendly, puckish humor but also having a haunted side stemming from a dark secret.

Ring any bells fans?

Gilliam will first appear next season, season 5 of the hit series, so we may not know with certainty, who his character is, until after the summer. Although I suspect the production team will make an appearance at this year’s Comic Con in July, and may spill some secrets then.

Who would’ve guessed that we’d see another black character on The Walking Dead…? In addition to Tyreese, Michonne, Bob, and Morgan (who the program’s showrunner said would definitely be back for season 5), surely one of them has to die, right?

The Walking Dead returns for its 5th season in October.
