For those looking for a new visual media job, the reel is everything. A compilation of one's best clips, it can help win over recruiters, and in an age of global competition, you have to stand out.
That's what David "Deacon" Schiele did when he posted his broadcasting reel to Twitter. The Georgia State University senior is a journalism major who hopes to break into sports journalism. His innovative reel contained not only the usual commentary on sports highlights like slam dunks, but also tips for the amateur sportsperson like how to properly hold a baseball for a slider pitch.
I will be graduating from Georgia State University in December and am looking for my first sports reporter/anchor job. Your RT would help me out tremendously! pic.twitter.com/sdZHiCueKu

His interactive, engaging reporting style stood out. The video quickly went viral and accumulated over 2.4 million views so far.
The soon-to-be grad has been working on his broadcast journalism skills for some time.
"My journalism experience extends into my high school years, as I discovered my passion for sports journalism at the age of 14," reads Schiele's website.
Although he has yet to graduate, Schiele has quite a bit of experience in the newsroom, having served as reporter and team leader for GSU's sportscast PrimeTime Sportz, which is run by students. His professional experience also includes working as the head writer for the Atlanta Falcons and editor for Pro Football Spot.
Schiele is also minoring in African American studies.
We're going to need every single network to hurry up and give him a job! We need him on our televisions ASAP.
