At one period of time, Sammie Anderson taught her sons to trust the police. However, a recent experience has changed her perspective.

The DeSoto Police Department of North Texas has been accused of police brutality after responding to a domestic dispute in August, according to the Dallas Morning News. Anderson told the girlfriend of one of her sons to call the police to prevent an altercation between her sons from turning violent.

"It was the worst decision I've ever made as a mom," Anderson told the Morning News.

According to the mother, when the police arrived on scene, the two men had already reconciled their differences, and tempers had cooled down.

Video released by the department on Monday appears to confirm the Anderson's claims. Despite this, police on the scene immediately pulled out their tasers. Family members thought the weapons were guns, and reacted in fear as they were told to get on the ground.

“It had been like 110 degrees that day,” Anderson told WFAA. “The ground was so hot … I don’t understand how you go from us calling you to us needing to get on the ground.”

One of her four sons rolled over on the still hot ground, and eventually got up. He was tased as officers arrested two of his brothers.

“All I know was I kept feeling electricity go through my body," the son told the Morning News. "And I’m like, 'Why am I being tased?'"

Ultimately, Anderson and two of her sons lost their jobs due to the legal issues surrounding the case, missed days from work and hospital visits, reports the New York Daily News.

Chief Joe Costa claims the 911 dispatcher heard there was a sledgehammer at the scene of the altercation, prompting the police's heavy-handed response.

Still affected by all of the repercussions of that night, Anderson regrets calling the police. She has filed a complaint of excessive force. The department has launched an internal investigation into the matter.

“There’s no way that any laws operate the way these officers operated that night,” she said.
