T.J. Holmes has always credited his wife for elevating his life in more ways than one. But now that the pictures from his alleged affair are circulating around the internet, many fans are questioning whether his kind words were simply a cover-up. To learn more about his relationship, here are five facts about T.J. Holmes’ wife, Marilee Fiebig:
1. Marilee Fiebig Helped Holmes Become a Better Man
In his letter for The Root, Holmes gushed about how his life had drastically improved since meeting Fiebig.
“My family and I are closer, my individual net worth has gone up every year since we met, I’ve learned a second language, I’m healthier, I use the N-word less, I listen to Sunday church service more, I’m a better friend, I’m more forgiving than I used to be, I’m more involved in charitable work.”
He continued, saying “In every way, I’m better off because I’m married. So, for me, a successful marriage has revolved around this principle: I like who I am with her.”
2. Fiebig is ALL About Giving Back
Marilee Fiebig may be a big-time lawyer, but she still finds time to give back to the community. And as a mother, she is especially serious about the little ones.
In 2021, she joined as Chief Diversity Officer for Save the Children. She helped lead its diversity and inclusion initatives, ensuring that all employees feel respected and valued, regardless of their race, gender, or sexual orientation.
Fiebig is also on the Board of Trustees for the Brooklyn Independent Middle School. Not to mention, she serves as a mentor for Unlock Her Potential, a free mentorship program that helps women of color.
3. Her Immigration Experience Inspired Her To Become an Attorney
Marilee Fiebig is a high-powered Atlanta attorney specializing in immigration law. But according to her, she wasn’t always so fortunate.
“I was born in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. My mother is from there and my dad was in the Peace Corps.” She explains in an interview with Marie Claire. “Our family moved to the United States when I was 5 years old because my mom wanted my siblings and me to fully take advantage of the educational opportunities that she didn’t have growing up in Africa.”
She reveals that her experience had a great affect on her professional career, and was the inspiration behind her becoming an attorney.
“I watched my mom go through the immigration process, being married to a U.S. citizen, having children with dual nationalities at the time, and so that whole process struck a cord with me.”
4. Holmes Admits To Giving Fiebig "plenty of reasons, excuses, and opportunities" To Divorce
Holmes and Fiebig have been married for over a decade. And in celebration of their tenth wedding anniversary, Holmes took to Facebook to pen an emotional letter, praising his wife for holding it down.
“I gave her plenty of reasons, excuses, and opportunities to walk her fine ass out the doooooooor,” he wrote, adding that because of “her built-in black woman superpower, she showed a grace and patience that’s incomprehensible.”
He continued gushing, noting that he wouldn’t blame her if she left him.
“Asking her for another 10 years would be asking too much. Another 10 months? That may even be a stretch. If she gave me another 10 weeks, I should consider myself lucky. If she puts up with me another 10 days, I’d be grateful. But if she would even spare another 10 minutes of her time for me today, I should consider myself blessed.”
5. She Promotes Positivity and Empowerment For Her Daughter
Recognizing the challenges she faced as a person of color, Marilee Fiebig is dedicated to ensuring her daughter is equipped to handle whatever life has to throw at her as well. In an interview with Purist Magazine, she explains her parenting style and hopes for her daughter as she grows older.
“As I reflect on my daily experiences, I want to ensure that the societal messages that I’ve internalized do not in any way limit my child’s dreams.” She explained.
Fiebig notes that while she hopes her daughter remains sweet, she should also be strong. “I want our daughter to be, first and foremost, kind,” she said. “But I also want her to be curious. I want her to be confident in asking questions, seeking answers, and exercising her voice.”
