Corn has been receiving lots of love since Recess Therapy‘s host Julian Shapiro-Barnum spoke with a little boy named Tariq who was enjoying a corncob.

“For me, I really like corn!” the boy joyfully said after Shapiro-Barnum asked the boy what he liked about his corn-on-the-cob.

Tariq, now known as the Corn Kid, went viral after Recess Therapy posted their corntastic interview on social media. Recess Therapy is known for interviewing children on New York City playgrounds and has 2.2 million followers on Instagram and over 180,000 followers on TikTok.

“Ever since I was told that corn was real, it tasted good. But when I tried it with butter, everything changed. I love corn,” Tariq told Shapiro-Barnum.

“Look at this thing!” he continued. “I can’t imagine a more beautiful thing!

Tariq then closed the interview with a punch line of his own.

“I hope you guys have a corntastic day,” he said. “What?! It’s just a pun about corn!”

Tariq is turning his love for kernels into coins with his viral corn song produced by TikTok user @schmoyoho. The song proceeds will be split between Tariq and his family.

Recently, Tariq also collaborated with Chipotle and appeared in a video on Twitter, which presented the question of how much he is getting paid for these appearances.

According to Romper, Tariq has joined Cameo to create content and receive payments ranging from $145 -$400 for corporate videos as the “Corn Kid.”

According to AfroTech, Corn Kids starting rate is $200, but with add-ons such as “more instructions” and “expedited delivery,” Tariq is likely making $500 per collaboration.
