Scheduled to air weekly in Nigeria on Silverbird TV, TVC, AIT, Soundcity (DStv), and in the UK on HITV, Reality TV show Nigeria’s Got Talent debuted this past Sunday, September 16, with Kate Henshaw, Dan Foster & Yibo Koko As Judges.
The series goal is to tour the country to find and discover talents, nurture and expose these talents to a global audience through local and international partner platforms.
I know we have readers in Nigeria, and the UK, so I have to ask if any of you tuned in.
According to a write-up on Screen Africa, it was quite a show; from an 11-year-old's heartfelt gospel song perfomance, to a young man using his whole body, especially his mouth to produce a full range of beats, a man who hung padlocks on his eye lids and inserted four inch nails into his nostrils, to a young lady who playe the saxophone using only her hands, and much more!
"There are reality shows and then there are reality shows," said the Project Manager, Adaora Mbelu. "The hilarity of some performances aside, in a country where there is an emphasis on lack of opportunities, it warmed the heart to see a wide range of enthusiastic, excellent performers, far beyond music. This is such an amazing country with truly talented people."
That's nice to read!
The series is scheduled to air on TV stations across Nigeria from now through December 2012.
I couldn't immediately find any footage from Sunday's debut; but here's a preview of what to expect:
