The U.S. Air Force Academy has launched an investigation after "go home n*gger" was found on the message boards outside of five black cadet candidates' dorm rooms.
A parent of one of the cadets reached out to local Colorado news outlet KRDO NewsChannel 13 Wednesday informing them about the slur.
She wrote on Facebook, “I’m angry that people are teaching their children such hate. These young people are supposed to bond and protect each other and the country… Keep your head up, son.”
The incident sparked a strong response from Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria, Superintendent of the Academy. He gathered the academy's staff and the 240 students attending to reassure everyone that the type of racism displayed is not allowed in the academy or in the country.
“If you’re outraged by those words, then you’re in the right place. That kind of behavior has no place at the Prep School,” Silveria said.
“This is our institution, and no one can take away our values,” Silveria added. “No one can write on a board and question our values. No one can take that away from us.”
