A conservative lawyer found himself poking fun at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) for pronouncing her name correctly. On a segment of Fox News' The Ingraham Angle, host Laura Ingraham and guest Joe diGenova discussed Ocasio-Cortez's meteoric rise as a new, fresh voice in the Democratic Party.

The short clip seen online featured a series of jokes about Amazon founder and The Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos. Then, the subject of Ocasio-Cortez's accent came up, unprompted.

“She does the Latina thing where she does her, you know, ’Anastasio Ocasio-Cortez,'” diGenova said. To seem less offensive, he pronounced his name with a heavy accent.

The baseless attack was met with a Twitter response from @AOC

"If by ‘the Latina thing,’ she means I actually do the work instead of just talk about it, then yeah, I’m doing ‘the Latina thing,’" she wrote.

Rep. Ocasio-Cortez also demanded the news network put aside its clear bigotry to make a better effort pronouncing her full name.

Since arriving in the House earlier this year, the right has intensified its attacks on the young lawmaker. Her recent announcement proposing a Green New Deal fighting against climate change is among the many things for which she has come under attack.
