The series made it to two seasons on CBS before earning a third on OWN. Deadline reports that the series hasn’t been able to bring a broadcast-size audience to its new network home. OWN will make an official decision regarding the future of All Rise after the second half of the third season airs.

This latest bump in the road for All Rise might prove to be the actual end of the fledgling series, which was initially promoted for it’s female-driven, diversity-led cast in 2019. But the series faced its first hurdle in 2020, after five of the seven original writers, including three of the series’ leading writers of color, left the series after arguing with then-showrunner Greg Spottiswood about depictions of minorities and gender. One episode, written by white writer Greg Nelson, included a Latinx gang threatening people with machetes. The script caused cast member Lindsay Mendez to refuse to act in the episode. Another Latinx writer raised questions about the script. The machete idea was cut.

The series also weathered the 2020 pandemic, filming an entire episode via Zoom, WebEx and Facetime.
