Although she wasn’t declared the winner of the final season of American Idol last night, runner-up La’Porsha Renae is still winning!
According to Billboard, La’Porsha will be a part of Universal Music Group, along with Trent Harmon. She will be signed under 19 Entertainment/Big Machine Records/Motown Records.
Scott Borchetta, the founder and CEO of Big Machine Label Group said that due to the “fan demand and success” of Idol’s last season, they decided to sign both the winner and the runner-up. “I can’t think of a better way to bring this American institution to a close. Everyone at the Big Machine Label Group, the Universal Music Group and Motown Records are so thrilled with the outcome and can’t wait to get to work,” said Borchetta. The CEO also says that Renae is the first artist to be dually signed to Big Machine/Motown.
Renae’s album will be headed by Ethiopia Habtemariam, the president of Motown and president of urban music/co-head of creative at Universal Music Publishing Group.
This awesome news after last night’s loss, especially after fans, critics and former Idols alike had expected Renae to pull off the win.
