Babyface speaks out after fans blamed Anita Baker for his set being canceled Wednesday night.

On Thursday, the “Two Occasions” singer told TMZ that technical issues were to blame.

“I would never shade Anita Baker. I have too much love and respect for her, and I look forward to continuing the tour. I was just reiterating what the stage hand was saying following all of the tech difficulties,” Babyface said.

The two legendary singers are on tour for Baker’s 15-date The Songstress tour, and Newark was their latest stop. Concertgoers reportedly waited two hours for the “Sweet Love” artist to perform and later found out Babyface, who was the opening act, wasn’t performing at all, Vibe reported.

Babyface took to Twitter Wednesday night and addressed the delay with his fanbase.

“I am truly sorry to my fans who have been waiting for us to hit the stage this evening at @PruCenter,” he tweeted. “I was asked not to perform in order to give Ms. Baker her space and time to perform her show in its entirety. My band and I are extremely saddened we didn’t get to perform for y’all tonight.”

After learning the disappointing news, fans called out Baker for being a “diva” and how they shouldn’t have had to wait two hours for the concert.

“Anita Baker apologized for the 2 hour delay and asked if Live Nation apologized to us  #Newark #PrudentialCenter,” one user said.

“I am at the Anita Baker concert, it is 2 hours late! This is unacceptable! Ppl have to work tomorrow, others don’t live in NJ and traveled here. No announcements have been made. Tickets were expensive. Disrespectful! Who is responsible for this? Shameful. #refund,” another user said.

“And gave a very average show after all the wait and that late ass sound check caused them to not have the sound right through the night. Very disappointed,” a third user wrote.

Baker later apologized to fans for the delay and audio issues during her performance. According to TMZ, the concert made curfew and ended around 11 p.m.
