During a recent performance on Sunday, R&B legend Anita Baker thanked Chance the Rapper for helping her recover her masters.

Chance, who was present for the performance, called the show the “greatest performance” of his lifetime.

In a clip shared on Twitter, Baker is seen in a sparkly gown on stage at a sold-out show in the Venetian Theatre in Las Vegas, Nevada.

During the performance, Baker took the time to thank Chance for helping her acquire her master recordings.

“You should say hello to a friend of mine by way of the music industry and by way of helping me,” Baker said. “helping me to get a hold and ownership of my master recordings.”

Following this, Chance is seen standing up as the audience gives him a standing ovation.

After the show, the Chicago native took to his Twitter to express his gratitude for Baker’s appreciation and complimented the performance as one of the “greatest performances” he has ever seen.

“I saw one of THE greatest performances of my LIFETIME last night,” Chance said. “Thank you so much @IAMANITABAKER for being an inspiration and an icon to so many of US.”

In 2021, Baker took to her Twitter to reveal that she had “outlived” her recording contracts and asked her fans not to purchase any of her music until she regained the rights to her music.

“Miraculously… i have outlived *ALL, of my Artists Contracts They no longer “Own”, My Name & Likeness. And, by Law…30 yr old, Mstrs are 2B Returned, 2 Me Unfortunately,” Baker said. “They’re gonna make me Fight 4 it. I’m Prepared, 2 do that. Please Dont advertise/buy them ABXO”

According to Vice, Section 203 of the Copyright Act indicates that 35 years after an author signs away the rights to a copyrighted work, they can file a request to reclaim them legally. This means that Baker could take ownership of her music 35 years after the release of the songs.

Chance the Rapper seems to have found a way around that issue.
