Anthony Anderson has addressed the fact that Emmys snubbed black-ish in its final season.
According to Entertainment Weekly, Anderson talked about the snub when he hosted Jimmy Kimmel Live. After saying he had a “bone to pick” with the Television Academy, he went in–hilariously, of course.
"You know who did not get nominated for a Primetime Emmy this morning? America's sweetheart: Me," he said with his mother, Doris Bowman, in the audience. "That's right, me, Anthony Anderson, and neither did my show, black-ish, or my co-star, Tracee Ellis Ross. Can you believe that sh-t, mama?"
“Now I’m not saying the voters were stupid for not nominating me or black-ish or Tracee, I’m just saying they’re racist,” he continued. “And you know what did get nominated for Best Comedy? Barry. A show about a murderer. And What We Do in the Shadows, a show about vampires who murder people. And Only Murders in the Building, a show about a podcast about a murder. So black-ish wasn’t nominated, but we’ve been named the lead suspect in all those white people murder shows.”
He also addressed Anthony A. Anderson, who was nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Short-Form Comedy or Drama Series for web series 'Anacostia.'
“The ‘A’ stands for ‘ain’t me,'” he said. “But whatever, I don’t care. Look, I don’t need the Emmy. You know who else never won an Emmy? Nelson Mandela. I think. At least I’ll always have my Oscar for Kangaroo Jack. They can never take that away from me.”
Of course, he doesn't have an Oscar for 'Kangaroo Jack.'
But the film did get an MTV Movie Award nomination for Best Virtual Performance. Also according to the outlet, Anderson received a nomination for Choice Movie Actor-Comedy at the Teen Choice Awards, while the film also earned a nomination from the awards show for Choice Movie-Comedy. However, Anderson was also nominated for the Razzie Awards as Worst Supporting Actor, so there’s that.
