It all began for me about two years ago.

Well, actually two years, four months and 15 days to be exact. But then again, who’s counting?

I was so sick and tired of clicking on my favorite digital platforms and reading about everything but the dope women of color that seemed to be relegated to “the Black girl magazines.” According to the "State of the Women-Owned Business," the number of firms owned by Black women increased by 164% from 2007 to 2018, and there were 2.4 million Black women-owned businesses in 2018. Despite the influx of our brands, there was a disparaging gap between our features.

Instead of complaining about the problem, I decided to become the solution. I created a space where I could showcase, spotlight and glorify brands and personalities of Black women — hence the birth of The Couture Agency.

I started The Couture Agency in 2017 and have catered to the needs of Black women-owned brands and personalities, both nationally and internationally. The impact that my agency has had on the Black community in such a short period of time still leaves me in shock. My team and I have overseen sponsorships with Nike and Kind Bar, television debuts on networks such as Fox and ABC, publication features in outlets such as Fast Company, O -The Oprah Magazine, Glamour and Cosmopolitan, pop-up shops with Macy’s and so much more.

One television debut led to over $16k in sales in less than 48 hours for one of my clients. To see my girls go from an idea to multi-million dollar brands in a matter of months is the ultimate blessing.

I built The Couture Agency for women of color so we can finally receive the publicity we deserve. My ultimate desire is to diversify the imagery and narrative of top publications and media outlets to include the voice and products for women of diversified backgrounds. The Couture Agency is my way of spreading #BlackGirlMagic one feature at a time.
