nullNow that her character has been written out of ABC’s Revenge in this season’s premiere, Ashley Madekwe has joined the cast of WGN America’s period drama Salem, which is based on the real-life Salem witch trials, which were a series of hearings and prosecutions of people accused of witchcraft in colonial Massachusetts in the 1600s.

Madekwe will play a character named Tituba, one of the first women accused of witchcraft.
“I had a costume fitting today, and it’s quite a different look for me than I had on ‘Revenge’… The series takes place in the 1690s. In our version, there really are witches, but they’re not the ones being accused,” Madekwe says.
Brannon Braga (24, Star Trek: The Next Generation) created the series, along with Adam Simon (The Haunting in Connecticut).
Janet Montgomery and Shane West star.
Seth Gabel, Xander Berkeley, Tamzin Merchant and Elise Eberle round out the starring cast.
Salem, the first original scripted series from WGN America, will debut in the spring.
