Atom Tickets app wants to give moviegoers a chance for more deals on tickets.
As first reported by The Wall Street Journal, Atom Tickets is designed to make group outings at your local movie theater easier and more affordable. Backed by some of the biggest studios in Hollywood, users have the ability to pre-purchase tickets, snacks from the concession counter, and skip the line for tickets at the theater entirely.
You and the homies can buy your tickets together in the app, so no texts about which showing you’re going to see, or who’s paying.
Theaters are also encouraged to offer variable pricing for tickets, allowing customers to buy tickets in bulk for a lower price.
Disney, Lionsgate, and Fox, three of Hollywood’s powerhouse studios, are leading a $50 million round of funding for Atom, hoping to make a big impact in the way that we buy movie tickets in the future. Fandango, owned by Comcast, is the head of the pack for online ticket sales right now.
Atom tickets co-founder and CEO, Ameesh Paleja says that his app uses “cutting edge” data analysis and targeting techniques to connect us to specific films we want to see based on our preferences.
Chairman and CEO, 20th Century Fox Jim Gianopulos tells Variety, “Atom Tickets provides an enhanced social experience for consumers to discover and purchase tickets to movies, designed for ease of use on mobile devices. Atom’s unique interface and integration with movie fans’ social networks creates a streamlined, fun way to go to movies with friends…his is an exciting opportunity for us and more importantly, for our audiences.”
The app is currently being used in test markets and is free in the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
Go check it out before your next trip to the movies.
